Kenai Peninsula Borough School District schools on the southern peninsula will switch to new start and end times in August 2017 due to the change from single-tier busing to double-tier busing.
The times announced by KPBSD on Dec. 15 are nearly identical to the schedule “X” agreed upon by lower peninsula school adminstrators. The only change between the two schedules is that Ninilchik School has an end time of 3:35 p.m., as opposed to 3:45 p.m. in the initially proposed schedule.
KPBSD transportation routing will be from home-to-school and school-to-home, according to the Dec. 15 press release. Additionally, out-of-area transportation, which is currently provided for some students who attend a school outside their attendance area, will no longer be available beginning with the 2017-2018 school year. Parents who wish to have their child attend a school outside their area may still do so, but KPBSD will no longer provide bus transportation. Updated bus routes and schedules will be available in the 2017 on the KPBSD website, along with districtwide school routes.
The decision to switch to a new busing system and the new school schedules were discussed at a series of community meetings this year. For more information about a specific school, contact the school principal.
