Boat House open house scheduled for Jan. 13

The Boat House Committee and architect Jason Swift from ECI/Hyer Anchorage hold an open house from 5-7 p.m. Jan. 13 to inform Homer of a planned marine pavilion at the Homer Harbor on the site of the old harbormaster’s office near Ramp 2. Learn about the Boat House, meet committee members, share ideas and enjoy complimentary appetizers and drinks.

The Boat House will be a three-sided wood pavilion overlooking the harbor that allows mariners, fishermen, visitors and harbor users a place to get out of the weather while staging to get on boats. It also will include information about Homer’s working harbor and history.

The $210,000 project has been included on the city of Homer’s Capital Improvement List, with money coming from fundraisers, grants and corporate contributions. The project received an anonymous $40,000 challenge gift at the end of 2015. To receive the gift, the committee must raise a matching $40,000 by March 31.

The Boat House has already received wide support from individuals and members of Homer’s maritime and tourist industry. Donations can be made through the Homer Foundation.
