Fishermen arriving for Winter King Tournament

Fishermen from around the state began showing up in Homer today for the annual Winter King Salmon Tournament. The Homer Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center had steady lines of fishermen registering this morning. Fishermen headed out today to scout out fishing spots and get in some salmon fishing.

The tournament starts at 9 a.m. Saturday morning, with lines out at 4 p.m. Registration is $100. Last year about 900 fishermen entered, with Raymond Tepp of Kenai winning $19,026 for a 30.6-pound king salmon. About $130,000 in prizes was awarded last year.
