RV, car crash injures four

A Utah man remains in serious condition at Providence Medical Center, Anchorage, after being injured in a car and motorhome collision last Friday afternoon. Kelly Hicks, 51, was taken by medevac to Providence after first being treated at South Peninsula Hospital.

According to Alaska State Troopers, Hicks was driving north in a Toyota Corolla near Mile 153 Sterling Highway at about 2:15 p.m. Aug. 16 when the car crossed the center line and side-swiped a Coachman motorhome driven by Daniel Hardy, 55, of Michigan. The crash tore open the driver sides of both vehicles. Emergency medical technicians took a passenger in the Toyota, Lisa Hicks, 48, also of Utah, Hardy, and his passenger, Kimela Hardy, also of Michigan, to South Peninsula Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash happened near the Stariski State Park Campground and stalled busy traffic, much of it going to the first day of the Kenai Peninsula State Fair in Ninilchik. Troopers closed the highway to one-lane traffic while investigating the crash. The highway eventually was opened to both lanes at 7:30 p.m.
