Moliere comedy opens at Pier One Theatre

Posted: August 14, 2013 - 1:39pm

For its last play of the season, Pier One Theatre presents a modern adaptation of Moliere’s “The Imaginary Invalid.” Adapted by Tracy Young and Oded Gross, with music by Paul James Prendergast, the play features an old man, Argan (played by Ken Landfield), who is deciding the fates (marriage or potential convents) of his two daughters, Angelique and Louison, while dealing with a parade of doctors floating treatment after treatment past his seemingly incurable disease. While written in the 1800s, the new version has been adapted into a 1960s disco musical set in Paris, a high energy comedia dell’arte play where the jokes come hard and fast. “The Imaginary Invalid” features Pier One regulars Ken Landfield, Jessica Williams and Peter Norton, and returning East Coast performer Kevin Ray Johnson. Directed by Marc Oliver, the play reunites the team that brought together last summer’s “Next to Normal.”

“Imaginary Invalid” shows at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and Aug. 23, 24, 25, 26, 29, 30 and 31. General admission is $16 with discounts available.
