‘Chicago’ opens Friday

Pier One Theatre’s big Broadway musical, “Chicago,” opens 7:30 p.m. Friday and continues July 1-2, 6-9 and 12-15. All shows are at 7:30 p.m. Set in 1920s Chicago, the musical tells the story of two rival vaudevillian murderesses locked up in Cook County Jail.

Nightclub star Velma is serving time for killing her husband and sister after finding the two in bed together. Driven chorus girl Roxie has been tossed in the joint for bumping off her lover. Prison matron Mama Morton and slickster lawyer Billy Flynn turn Velma’s incarceration into a murder-of-the-week media frenzy, but Roxie’s got some of her own tricks up her sleeve.

Written By Fred Ebb, Bob Fosse, and John Kander, the Pier One Theatre is directed By Jennifer Norton, Lance Petersen and Mark Robinson, with a full jazz orchestra. Tickets are $18 general and $16 Raven’s Club, on sale at the Homer Bookstore and before the show. For reservations, call 226-2287.
