The Kachemak Bay Birders will meet on Monday, April 2 at 4:30 p.m. at the Islands and Ocean Visitor Center in the auditorium. Following the meeting, Aaron Lang will present “Shorebird Identification.” Shorebirds are on their way and it’s always fun to learn a little more how to tell them apart. Aaron has excellent photos showing what we should look for and contrasts with confusable species. This is an excellent way to learn more and enjoy the beauty of these amazing birds. Homer Area Nonprofit Directors will present an Advocacy, Economics and Innovation Seminar Sunday and Monday, April 8-9 at the Pratt Museum, Kachemak Bay Campus and Homer City Hall. Cook Inletkeeper will host “Pebble and Cook Inlet,” a presentation and discussion from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, March 30 at the Islands and Ocean Visitor Center. Pebble Mine is in the permitting process, and attendees can go to learn about the proposed transportation corridor in Cook Inlet, the impacts to the community, and how to participate in the public comment period. Food and greetings will start at 5:30 p.m., with the presentation starting at 6 p.m.

Scholarship opportunity: Friends of the Homer Public Library sponsors one applicant to attend the Kachemak Bay Writers’ Conference. The scholarship will cover the $395 registration fee only. Anchor Point Senior Citizens

The Anchor Point Senior Center on Milo Fritz Road is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-noon Friday. The center serves Thursday night dinners starting at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Bingo is at 6:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m. on Friday nights. The Helping Hands Thrift Store is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Exercise sessions are at 10 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. For information, call 235-7786.

Friendship Center

Friendship Center Adult Day Services is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday with extended hours for special situations. Programs are offered daily, including story time, crafts and musical performances. Call 235-4556.

Homer Senior Citizens

The Caregiver Support Group meets 2-3:30 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday in the senior center conference room. Call Pam Hooker at 299-7198 or Daniel Weisser at 235-4555.

Homer Senior Citizens lunch is open to seniors and guests and is served noon-1:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. The menu for this week is: Thursday, baked ham; Friday, fish and chips; Monday, stuffed shells with meat; Tuesday, teriyaki chicken; Wednesday, spaghetti; and next Thursday, walnut crusted pork.

Strong Women classes are 1:30-2:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Homer Senior Center. The cost is $3 for members and $6 for nonmembers per class.

Zumba Gold classes with Maria are 11 a.m.-noon Tuesdays and 1:30-2:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Homer Senior Center. The cost per class is $4 for members, $6 for nonmembers.

Tai chi classes are Thursdays at 3 p.m. The cost per class is $3 for members and $6 for nonmembers.

Curator’s Closet: 50 Years of Collecting at the Pratt Museum is on in the Special Exhibits Gallery through April 28.

Ongoing activities: Fish Feedings have resumed from 4-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays in the Marine Gallery. Fish Feeding is fun and all are welcome.
