Two Popeye wrestlers brought home triple crowns last weekend after participating in the Alaska State Wrestling Championships. Timmy Woo and Tristen Cook, wrestling in the cadet division, each placed first in their weight categories in three events: Greco, Folkstyle and Freestyle. Woo wrestles at 160 pounds; Cook at 170 pounds.
The team brought home a second place trophy in division 2, which is for clubs with no more than 30 wrestlers. The first place team was Interior Youth Wrestling Cub; Copper River Wrestling Club got third place. The Popeye Wrestling Club sent 25 wrestlers to the championship events.
Thirteen Popeye wrestlers participated in the Greco event: Timmy Woo, cadet, 160 pounds, first place; Tristen Cook, cadet, 170 pounds, first place; Seth I’nama, cadet, 106 pounds, third place; Christopher Cudaback, cadet, 145 pounds, fourth place; Austin McGregor, junior, 145 pounds, fourth place; Lucas Barnard, novice, 65 pounds, fifth place; John Barnard, schoolboy, 136 pounds, fifth place; and Christopher Clucas, junior, 220 pounds, fifth place. Other Popeye wrestlers in the event were Jordan Cottan, novice, 95 pounds; Ian Stovall, schoolboy, 98 pounds; Gage Cotton, schoolboy, 105 pounds; McKenzie Cook, schoolgirl, 136 pounds; and Cole Bernier, schoolboy, 136 pounds.

Eight Popeye girls wrestled in the women’s freestyle event: Saoirse Cook, intermediate, 50 pounds, first place; Jordan Cottan, novice, 95 pounds, first place; McKenzie Cook, schoolgirl, 137 pounds, first place; Roan Cook, novice, 85 pounds, second place; Keeley Dabney, novice, 90 pounds, second place; Mina Cavasos, schoolgirl, 113 pounds, second place; Hayley Blaine, novice, 75 pounds, third place; and Sierra Clark, schoolgirl, 120 pounds.
