Weekend volleyball: Homer splits conference matches

The visiting Nikiski volleyball team defeated Homer on Thursday in Southcentral Conference action.

The Bulldogs notched a 25-15, 25-17 and 25-21 victory.

Evelyn Reichert and Kailey Stynsberg each had 12 digs for Nikiski, while Avery Ellis had 16 assists and Milly Hornung had 12 assists.

Ashlynne Playle had 10 kills, while Mandee Roofe had seven kills and Blakeley Jorgensen had seven kills and three blocks.

Homer sweeps Houston

The host Mariners moved to 4-2 in the Southcentral Conference and 5-3 overall with the Friday win.

Homer coach Ian Overson said it was nice to get the win despite being short-handed.

“Everyone stepped up their game since it was our last home game of the season,” Overson wrote.
