Volleyball: Homer wins some, loses some

The Lady Mariners saw some ups and downs last week in games against Soldotna, Grace Christian and Mountain City Christian Academy.

On Tuesday, Sept. 10, Homer swept the SoHi Stars 3-0 in a home game.

The team traveled to Anchorage for conference play against Grace Christian on Friday and MCCA on Saturday. The varsity team defeated Grace Christian with a score of 3-0, but fell to MCCA with two points against the opposing team’s three.

In the game against Grace Christian, Reilly Sue Baker had 13 kills. Alysha Nyvall had 15 assists and Rebecca Trowbridge had 12. Maddy Miotke had five aces.

“(We) started off a little slow, but then everything really came together, and their effort was really on display,” head coach Ian Overson wrote in a text message to Homer News on Tuesday.

In the game against MCCA, Channing Lowney had 16 kills. Alysha Nyvall had seven serving aces. Brightly Thoning had two blocks.

The Lady Mariners are 5-3-1 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
