Skiing season heats up

Kachemak Nordic Ski Club holds a three-Saturday adult beginner skate clinic Saturday, Jan, 5 and 12. Late registration of $25 is available for Junior Nordic, which begins Jan. 19. Friday Night Lights will be held Jan. 4 and 5, with torches lit from 6-8 p.m. Check the web for details at kachemaknordicskiclub.org.

 

Ice arena schedule full of opportunities

Softball players honored for high GPA

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association of Louisville, Ky., has recognized 10 players from the State Runner-Up 2012 Homer Mariners Softball team as All-American Scholar athletes. To be eligible for the commendation players had to attain a 3.5 GPA for the year. 

Recognized players were Miranda Beach, Lauren Cashman, Monica Davis, Briana Edens, Larsen Fellows, Kenley Kingrey, Katie Kirsis, Hannah LaRue, Maggie LaRue and Katie McNary. The team as a whole ranked 37th nationwide in total team GPA among member schools.
