The Mariner Girls varsity team lost its home game against Soldotna High School Tuesday, and thanks to temperamental spring weather, also experienced all four seasons during the two 45-minute halves. The game finished with a 4-1 win for SoHi.
SoHi shut down Homer’s offensive opportunities with a strong and collected defense, but gave up an own goal from a misjudged pass back to the goalie with 12 minutes left to go in the game.
Head Coach Mickey Todd said that the Mariner keeper Samantha Draves, junior, kept the team in the game, and estimated that she collected about 30 saves.
Todd expects a similar competitive level from Wasilla for the upcoming home game on Friday at 4 p.m.
The Lady Mariner junior varsity squad maintained a 0-0 score in the first half of its game, but swallowed an ending 5-0 shutout from SoHi.
