More than 160 individuals — divided between the 10K to the Bay, the Cosmic Hamlet Half-Marathon and the untimed Homer Spit Walk — participated in the Homer Spit Run on Saturday, June 29.

In addition to runners from the greater Homer area, this year’s event saw athletes from the central Kenai Peninsula, Anchorage, the Matanuska-Susitna region, and even the Lower 48.

The ages of the participants in the 10K and half marathon also ranged from 11 to 82.

Noah Forrey from Gillette, Wyoming, took first place in the men’s group for the 10K to the Bay with a time of 34 minutes and 0.69 seconds. Homer’s Michael Munns followed in second place, with a time of 38 minutes and 20.78 seconds. Corin Katzke from Boston came in third with 42 minutes and 39.39 seconds.

For the women racing in the 10K to the Bay, Melanie Griffith from Soldotna came in first at 36 minutes and 43.65 seconds. Homer’s Brooke Miller came second at 38 minutes and 51.12 seconds, followed by Shelby Kline from Gillette in third place, with a time of 45 minutes and 27.33 seconds.

Homer dominated the half marathon in both the men’s and women’s groups.

For the men, Andrew Peters came in first with a time of one hour, 19 minutes and 29.04 seconds. Jai Badajos, also from Homer, came in second at one hour, 31 minutes and 6.4 seconds. Johannes Bynagle from Fritz Creek came hot on Badajos’ heels in third at one hour, 31 minutes and 31.41 seconds.

For the women, Kristen Buckwalter crossed the finish line first at one hour, 35 minutes and 6.37 seconds. She was followed by Alexa Helm, in second place, at one hour 48 minutes and 33.99 seconds. Alecia Stengel came in third at one hour, 50 minutes and 29.66 seconds.

Following the close of the event, a post-race deck party was hosted by the Kachemak Bay Running Club at Land’s End Resort, with food and door prizes for race participants and their friends and family.
