A banquet and registration kick off the wrestling season for the Popeye Wrestling Club. The potluck dinner, pizza and dessert meal is provided by the club and takes place at Homer Middle School’s multi-purpose room at 6 p.m. Monday.
The wrestling program is open to boys and girls as young as five years old on the southern Kenai Peninsula. A full practice and tournament schedule will be provided in registration packets and discussed at the banquet.
The Popeye Wrestling Club has been active for 30 years and operated by volunteers since the club’s beginning. All coaches are USA Wrestling-certified and volunteer their time.
New for the 2015 season:
• Girls-only practice sessions built into the practice schedule;
• The Popeye Wrestling Club home tournament will be a two-day event with a girls tournament and a folkstyle tournament added on the Friday of the tournament.
