The Mariners football team handily dispatched the Seward Seahawks 46-0 last Friday.
Homer Mariners Boys Varsity Football returned home on Friday, Aug. 26, after losing to Houston High School on the road. However, the loss didn’t derail thier momentum for long, as they quickly asserted themselves against fishing-town sister school, Seward High.
Senior quarterback Carter Tennison lead the team in touchdowns and rushing yards, scoring three and running 240 yards from nine tries. Additionally, Tennison threw for 160 yards this game.
Senior receivers Morgan Techie and Luke Hanson both enjoyed catches, gaining 37 and 44 yards respectively.
Seniors Russell Nyvall and Jake Tappan scored rushing touchdowns, as well as sophomore quarterback Preston Stanislaw, who played the second half of the game in place of Tennison.
On the defensive side of the ball, senior Jack Hrenchir lead the team with six tackles and two defensive pass interferences. Junior Justice Davidson also performed defensively, managing five tackles.
The Mariners will hope to carry this form onto their game against the Kenai Kardinals at 3 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 3 on the Homer High School Turf Field.
