Kenai’s Price breaks another school record at SoHi Invite

Kenai Central junior Abigail Price continued to rewrite the school records Saturday at the SoHi Invite at Soldotna High School.

Price won the 100-yard freestyle in 54.21 seconds to break the 1990 record of 54.26, set by Mendy Benson.

Price has four school records. Last season, she was part of a team that broke the 400 freestyle relay record.

Earlier this season, Price snapped the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly records before striking again Saturday.

Price also won the 50 freestyle in 25.72 seconds to help Kenai place third in the meet. Colony won with 90 points, while Palmer had 77.

The Colony boys won with 130 points, while Kenai was next with 70 and Soldotna was third with 37.

David Price won a pair of individual events for the Kardinals, taking the 200 IM in 2:11.87 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.63.

Michael Davidson claimed the 100 freestyle for Soldotna, stopping the clock at 51.41.

In Friday’s SoHi Pentathlon, Colony swept the team titles. The girls had 228 to the 197.5 of runner-up Kodiak, while the boys had 508 to the 93 of runner-up Kenai Central.

In the Pentathlon, each swimmer does the 100 individual medley, the 50 butterfly, the 50 backstroke, the 50 breaststroke and the 50 freestyle. The five events are totaled to determine the winner.

Colony’s Iver Gates won at 2:40.57, winning the 100 IM in 57.33.

Colony’s Thomas Smith won the 50 fly in 24.11, Colony’s Pierce McDonough won the 50 backstroke in 25.96, Smith won the 50 breaststroke in 29.77 and Kodiak’s Coby Hubert won the 50 freestyle in 22.53.
