The Kenai Central High School wrestling team led the Kenai Peninsula by finishing sixth on Friday and Saturday at the ACS Denali Class Invite in Anchorage.
Redington won with 150.5 points, while the Kardinals had 98, Nikiski had 72 in 12th, Seward had 45 in 17th and Homer had 22 in 23rd.
Talon Whicker won a title at 125 for the Kards, pinning Delta’s Garrett Coen in the final. Owen Whicker was second for the Kards at 130.
Also for Kenai, Andrew Gaethle was third at 152 and Elijah Dambacher was sixth at 135.
For Homer, Nestor Kalugin took third at 171.
For Nikiski, Simon Grenier was second at 171, Sam Yerkes took third at 145 and Jackson Wittmer took fifth at 160.
For Seward, Aiden Schilling took the title at 103, while Hunter Kurtz was third at 112.
Soldotna girls take 8th at ACS Girls Invite
The Soldotna girls led the Kenai Peninsula by placing eighth Friday and Saturday at the ACS Denali Glass Invite.
Colony won with 85 points, while SoHi had 56, Kenai had 32 and Homer had 22.
Trinity Donovan led the Stars by taking the title at 145 pounds. Donovan pinned Colony’s Kaitlyn Cottrell in the championship match.
Also for the Stars, Daisy Hannevold took third place at 135.
For the Kardinals, Simone Watts led the way by taking third at 160.
For Homer, Cecilia Fitzpatrick took sixth.
