Homer takes losses in Joe Floyd basketball tournament

The 56th annual tourney was hosted in Kodiak last weekend

The Homer girls and boys opened up their seasons with losses to Monroe Catholic in the 56th annual Joe Floyd Basketball Tournament on Friday in Kodiak.

The Mariners girls lost 60-11 to the Rams.

For Homer, Channing Lowney had 5, while Keagan Niebuhr, Mally Im and Madalyn Miotke each had 2.

For Monroe, Leila Church had 14, Leyton Cortez and Desiree Redfox had 9, Lydia Felix had 7, Emersyn Cortez had 6, Chany Turiel, Shannel Kovalsky and Trinity Turiel had 4, and Shilo Kovalsky had 3.

The Homer boys took an 83-29 loss.

Einar Pederson paced the Mariners with 9, while Henry Wedvik had 7, Ben Engebretsen had 5, and Preston Stanislaw and CJ Burns had 4 apiece.

The Rams received 21 from Jett McCullough, 16 from Adam Geyer and 12 from Armani Smith. Also, Tucker Williams had 8, Zavier Olson had 7, Isaiah Snow and James Trieflaff had 6, Cooper Wentz had 5 and Harry Roberts had 2.

Saturday

The Homer girls and boys basketball teams both fell to 0-2 at the 56th annual Joe Floyd Basketball Tournament in Kodiak and 0-2 overall with losses to the hosts.

The Mariners girls fell 49-46 in overtime.

Mizzy Arbues poured in 26 points to lead the Bears.

For Homer, Channing Lowney led the way with 14, while Keagan Niebuhr had 10.

Also, Maddie Miotke had 9, Kylee Akee had 6, Abby Ostrom had 4 and Mally Im had 3.

The Homer boys took a 70-57 loss to the Bears.

Spencer Dye hit five 3-pointers on the way to 19 points for the Mariners, while CJ Burns added 18 points.

Also, Einar Pedersen had 7, Henry Wedvik had 6, Preston Stanislaw had 5 and Ben Engebretsen had 2.

Kelly Ticman erupted for 29 points to led Kodiak, while Mac Abellera pitched in with 17.

Also, Bubba Basuel and Liam Danelski had 6, Isaac Calderon had 3, and Cowen Mangampo and Julian Kiefer each had 2.

Sunday

The Homer girls and boys basketball teams both lost on the final day of the 56th annual Joe Floyd Basketball Tournament in Kodiak.

The Mariners both finished 0-3 in the tourney, and are 0-3 overall.

The Homer girls lost 50-43 to Bethel.

For the Mariners, Channing Lowney had 19, Keagan Niebuhr had 15, Madalyn Miotke had 5 and Kylee Akee had 4.

For the Warriors, Briella Herron had 19, Ashlynn Lonewolf had 9, Malinda Simon had 8, Ambrea Jackson had 7, Kyana Harpak had 5 and Hannah Leinberger had 2.

The Homer boys lost to Bethel 73-64.
