Cross-country ski’s next meet is the Valley Invite in Palmer on Jan. 13-14.
Girls and boys basketball travels to Seward on Dec. 22. Girls varsity plays at 4 p.m. and boys varsity plays at 5:30 p.m. After winter break, the girls and boys will play at home against Houston on Jan. 13 at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. and against Joe Redington Jr./Sr. High on Jan. 14 at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Hockey plays Soldotna High School at the Soldotna Sports Center at 6:45 p.m. Following winter break, hockey will have a block of home games on Jan. 12-14. The Mariners will play Palmer on Jan. 12 at 7 p.m., Colony on Jan. 13 at 4 p.m. and Wasilla on Jan. 14 at 2 p.m.

The Mariner boys basketball team played at the Sohi Tip Off over the weekend.
Saturday, Dec. 17: Homer 54, Nikiski 44
The seventh-place game was a tale of two halves. Nikiski won the first half 25-17, but Homer stormed back and won the second half 37-19. Koby Etzwiler had 25 points for the Mariners, while Justin Ellision had 10.

The Kardinals pulled off a big comeback Friday to move into Saturday’s fifth-place game. Homer had a 27-16 lead at halftime, but Kenai won the third quarter 17-10 and the fourth quarter 12-5.
Koby Etzwiler pumped in 22 points to lead the Mariners.

Homer’s girls basketball team competed at the Kenai River Challenge at Kenai Central High, where Nikiski took the top spot.

The Nikiski Bulldogs finished off their title Saturday with a stifling defensive performance. Mariner Rylee Doughty led Homer with six points.
