Hockey
Mariner hockey finished the Palmer Hockey Showdown on Saturday, Nov. 12 with a 6-5 win against Lathrop during the final morning of the three-day tournament. Garrett Butcher scored the game-winning goal with 1 minute, 27 seconds left in regulation play. Robby Larson also scored twice and Mychaela Pitta, Lee Lowe and Dimitry Kuzmin scored once to help prevent Homer from leaving Palmer without a win. Overall, Homer finished 1-2-0 in the tournament, losing to East 6-1 and South 15-2.

Goalies — Houston, Nix (13 shots, 9 saves); Homer, Warren (16 shots, 15 saves).
Wrestling
The Mariner wrestling team opened the weekend by defeating the number three ranked Barrow Whalers 60-9 in the Homer High Gym on Thursday, Nov. 10. The Mariners won every match except for two on Thursday evening.
• Chris Cudaback, at 152 pounds, gained a 11-9 victory over Barrow’s Keegan Stockton, following up two losses Cudaback had against Stockton at ACS. Both wrestlers are ranked top four in the state.
• Mose Hayes nearly pulled off the second upset of the night, losing only by one point to his opponent.
• Jaimie Rios, who usually wrestles at 170, bumped up to 182 and pinned his opponent. It was also Rios’ first match of the season after recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the football season.
Homer’s wrestlers traveled to Nikiski for a dual format tournament on Friday and Saturday. Homer’s varsity beat Soldotna High School and the JV team from Colony on Friday, Nov. 11. The Mariners also beat Houston 71-6, Dillingham 63-12, and Colony JV 55-12 on Saturday, Nov. 12. All female wrestlers picked up wins over the weekend, beating many boys as well, said head coach Chris Perk.
• Sierra Clark, at 132 pounds, received her first career win when she locked up a cross face cradle and pinned her SoHi opponent in the third period.
• Mina Cavasos, at 120, beat a Nikiski opponent.
• Allison Wells, at 126, pinned Jessi Merrick of Houston in the third period.
• Newcomer Tomas Babitt, at 182 pounds, won both matches by pins.
• Heather Harrington pinned Houston’s Kobe Little by sticking his shoulders to the mat in the second period.
• McKenzie Cook, at 145, wrestled her best match of the season, beating her opponent 8-0.
• Seth Inama beat number 3 ranked Justin Dye 8-4.
• Kyle Wells came back from a wrist injury to win his match.
