Cross-country roundup: Homer’s Bynagle takes 3rd at State Preview

Homer junior Johannes Bynagle led Kenai Peninsula runners at the State Preview on Saturday at Bartlett High School.

Bynagle finished third in the boys race with a time of 16 minutes, 47 seconds, while Grace Christian’s Robbie Annett won the race at 16:21.

In the girls race, Soldotna junior Tania Boonstra led the peninsula by taking 13th at 20:32. Ida Meyer of Juneau-Douglas: Yadaa.at Kale won at 19:04.

The Chugiak girls won with 59 points, while Colony was second at 103. From the peninsula, Soldotna was seventh.

The South boys won with 94, while Juneau was second with 111. From the peninsula, Homer was 11th, Soldotna was 12th and Kenai Central was 18th.

Seward girls win Wasilla Trailblazer Invite

The Seward girls won the Wasilla Trailblazer Invite on Friday at Wasilla High School. The event gave the teams the chance to preview the course that will be used for the Region III meet on Sept. 28.

The Seahawks had 38 points, while Wasilla was next at 42. Homer was third and Soldotna was sixth.

On the boys side, Wasilla won with 40, while Colony was next at 85. Seward was fifth, Soldotna was sixth and Kenai was eighth.

Wasilla’s Hailee Giacobbe won the girls race at 19:04, while Seward’s Olive Jordan was second at 19:57.

Also in the top 10 from the peninsula were Seward’s Indigo Leslie in fourth, Homer’s Beatrix McDonough in fifth, Homer’s Claira Booz in seventh, Kenai’s Teresa Fallon in eighth and Seward’s Katie Van Buskirk in 10th.

Lukas Underhile of Mountain City Christian Academy won the boys race at 16:46, while Wasilla’s Stephen Hafen was next at 16:52.

From the peninsula, Kenai Central’s Chase Laker was fifth, Soldotna’s Ollie Dahl was sixth and Seward’s Ridge Conant was 10th.
