Boonstra, SoHi girls capture Homer Invitational

The Soldotna girls and Grace Christian boys won the Homer Invitational on Friday at the Lookout Mountain Ski Trails just outside of Homer.

SoHi’s Tania Boonstra won the 5-kilometer girls race to lead the Stars to the title with 21 points. Seward had 49, Grace Christian had 62 and Kenai Central had 100.

For the boys, Grace’s Robbie Annett remained undefeated this season by winning the 5-kilometer race and leading the Grizzlies to 28 points and the title. Homer had 50, Soldotna had 68 and Kenai had 73.

Boonstra won at 22 minutes, 27 seconds, while Homer’s Daisy MossWalker was second at 23:44.

The Stars put six in the top 11, with Kathryn DeBardelaben third, Sasha Brott fifth, Annie Burns sixth, Kaytlin McAnelly 10th and Valarie McAnelly 11th.

Seward was led by a seventh from Selah Brueckner, an eighth from Katie Van Buskirk and a ninth from Juniper Ingalls.

Emily Moss paced Kenai by finishing 16th.

Annett ran 18:25 to top the 19:04 of teammate and runner-up Simon Nelson.

Greg Fallon of Kenai was third, while Jake Laker also got in the top 10 for the Kards by finishing 10th.

Homer got a fifth from Ethan Styvar, seventh from Johannes Bynagle and eighth from Jai Badajos, while Soldotna’s Noble Cassidy was fifth.

Ridge Conant led Seward in 12th.
