The Mariners improved to 5-1 overall with a nonconference victory over the Patriots at Wasilla.

Homer was down 3-2 entering the bottom of the third inning, but scored seven runs there to take control of the game.

Henry Wedvik went six innings, giving up three runs — two earned — on six hits while walking two and striking out eight.

Jayden Sims finished with a scoreless inning, allowing two hits while striking out one.

Sims went 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI at the plate, while Cohen Boyd had a hit, an RBI and three runs.

Also, Jamen Anderson had two RBIs and Weston Marley had two RBIs.

Homer 2, Redington 1

The visiting Mariners improved to 4-1 overall.

Weston Marley and Clyde Clemens held down the Huskies on the mound.

Marley went the first five innings, giving up no runs on two hits while striking out five.

Clemens finished up by allowing a run on a hit in two innings, walking one and whiffing one.

The Mariners won with just one hit. CJ Burns had the base knock, also scoring a run. Preston Stanislaw added a run for Homer, while Marley had an RBI.
