150 participate in 2nd annual Run for Recovery

The 5K run/walk was held on Saturday, Aug. 31

The second annual 5K Run for Recovery, organized by Kachemak Bay Recovery Connection, saw great community support again this year with 150 runners, walkers or strollers participating on Saturday, Aug. 31.

The race started and finished at the Deep Water Dock on the Homer Spit. A community social with music, food and door prizes followed the conclusion of the race.

“We are very thankful for the community showing up to support people in recovery and those affected by addiction,” said KBRC board president Jaclyn Rainwater. “We’re very happy with the turnout and very thankful to all the community agencies that pitched in to make the event possible.”

The Run for Recovery also kicked off a series of events hosted by Kachemak Bay Recovery Connection in celebration of Recovery Month, which runs throughout September.

A candlelight vigil will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 4-5:30 p.m. at WKFL Park to commemorate the lives of loved ones lost to overdose. KBRC also continues their Recovery Speaker Series on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 6-8 p.m. at the Little Fireweed School yurt, with guest speaker Sam Garcia.
