Anchor Point resident, Ms. Teela Rae Clegg, 65, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at her home in Anchor Point.
A celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at The College Heights Baptist Church, 44440 K-Beach Road in Soldotna. Pastor Scott Coffman officiates. A spaghetti dinner will follow the services. Guests are asked to bring a salad, bread or dessert.
Ms. Clegg was born Oct. 11, 1947, in Anchorage. She lived in Soldotna until 1966, when her husband’s military career required relocation. Over a period of 22 years as a devoted military wife, Teela lived in Kentucky, Hawaii, California, Colorado, and Anchorage and Fairbanks. In 1987 she returned to the Kenai Peninsula living in Homer. Teela loved cooking, fishing, ceramics, oil painting, gardening and raising dogs and birds.
Teela’s earlier years of employment included cooking for the Monterey, Calif., school district and teaching art classes on oil painting, ceramics and candle making. Since the late 1980s, Teela lovingly cooked for the patrons of many of Homer restaurants, including The Porpoise Room, Addie’s and the Otter Room. Most recently, Teela worked at Homer’s Pratt Museum. In retirement, Teela spent her time volunteering at the Homer Community Food Pantry.
The family wrote, “Those who knew and loved Teela will remember her as a beautifully simple woman, with endless bits of comfort to share. Whether gently nurturing her children, grandchildren or warming someone’s day with a generously prepared meal, she did so with an open heart and mind. Those who lived and worked beside her know that Teela was an expert at working hard and making it seem easy. In her presence, many learned that no task was too difficult to be done without pleasure; that every job was better if done happily together. Teela was youthful at heart, finding delight in children and always seeking out some enchanting creation to amuse them with. She is fondly remembered, eternally loved, and dearly missed. With her passing, her family makes this wish: that her gentle, carefree ways flood your hearts as she forever rests in God’s hands.”
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra B. Clegg; lifelong husband and partner, Thomas R. Clegg; sister, Rhoda A. Groesbeck, and brother, John E. Griffiths.
