Ruth S. Gnad

Mrs. Ruth S. Gnad, aged 99 of Homer, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at South Peninsula Hospital.

Ruth was born on June 17, 1917, in Briggsdale, Colo.

Ruth graduated from college with a bachelor’s degree in education. She moved to Anchorage in 1961 and then to Homer in 1964 to teach, retiring from the Kenai Peninsula School District in 1977.

She was a member of the Homer United Methodist Church and often undertook projects for the South Peninsula Hospital Auxiliary. Her family remembers that she enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting and cooking for her family.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Harold S. Gnad, as well as her mother, Bertha Sutton, father, Peter Soetens, brothers James and Wendell, and sister, Vera.

She is survived by her brother, Myron, and her sons, Peter H. Gnad of Homer, Alan R. Gnad of Homer, John K. Gnad and wife, Moon, of Rotonda West, Fla., and Bruce R. Gnad and wife, Marilyn, of Homer; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ruth’s name may be given to the Homer United Methodist Church, 770 East End Rd. Homer, AK 99603.
