Robert George Haakenson, 73, passed away in Casa Grande, Arizona, on Aug. 20, 2021, with his wife and many loved ones by his side. Robert was born in Anchorage, Alaska, the third child of Lionel and Esther Haakenson. He and his six siblings grew up in Anchor Point, Alaska. After graduating from Ninilchik High School, he joined the U. S. Air Force, where his time included a tour of duty in Vietnam. Upon release from the service, he joined the Anchorage Police Department. He served as an APD officer for 30 years.
Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf, but his greatest love was family. He never failed to call or text family members not only on birthdays, but also on holidays. Everyone looked forward to those calls. He also loved receiving visits from family and friends, and he positively lit up at the sight of his grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his father Lionel; mother Esther; and oldest brother James (Jim). He is survived by his loving wife, Diana Haakenson; daughter Kristi Southall; son Chad Haakenson; brothers Tim Haakenson, John Haakenson, Ken Haakenson and Ron Haakenson; sister Mary Perry; granddaughters Aleena and Kinslee, and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
The family will hold a private service at a future date.
