Robert “Harley Bob” Drennan, 66, died peacefully at his Ninilchik home on Nov. 10, 2013. Bob was born May 18, 1947. 

A military graveside service is at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at the Ninilchik Cemetery. Pallbearers are James Painter, Bill and Ian Steik, Sheridan Crawford and Michael Hicks. Honorary pallbearers are Grant Yacobucci, and Robert McGinnis, special friends, Sharon Deiman, and the Bock and Painter families. A memorial finger-food potluck follows at 4 p.m. at Carol Bock Hall.  

Bob entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 1, 1972, and served two tours in Vietnam as a combat medic and came home to continue serving his country as a paramedic in San Francisco.  

“He was a much loved tenant at Ninilchik House and cared for his elders in many ways. He was their first call for help, their head chef and their advocate, when necessary. Bob was a sweet doting old man to the youngsters. The rest of us got to see the cantankerous, often surly Bob. There were times when he was exasperatingly outspoken, but he earned that privilege. In fact, he fought for that privilege for himself and for the rest of this country. The scars of Vietnam chased him to the grave, but he bested them, by living life to the fullest. May his ride continue on a different plane — with a wide glide and miles of open spaces,” his family said.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Trissillian Correll, of Gainesville, Fla., and a host of friends.
