Robert “Bob” P. Moore, 88, of Homer, Alaska passed away from Alzheimer’s disease on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Majestic View Assisted Living.

At his request, there will be no memorial service. His ashes will be spread in Florida, on the outgoing tide. 

Bob was born in Burlington City, N. J., on Dec. 10, 1925. He worked for 34 years as an ironworker, contributing to many large structures on the East Coast, including the construction of the Twin Towers in New York City. In 1986, he retired from climbing the iron and moved to Port Richey, Fla.In 2008, after experiencing symptoms of Alzheimer’s, Bob moved to live with his son Michael in Alaska. During his lifetime he spent many cherished summers in Alaska with his son and grandchildren, but he was never very fond of the winters.

Bob served in the Navy during World War II.  He was a gunner on the Destroyer USS Hunt that served as an escort for the big carriers. He fought in numerous battles during WWII including; Iwo Jima, Marshall Islands, Okinawa Gunt, Leyte, Asiatic Pacific Raids, Luzo, Hollandia, Marianas and West Caroline Island. 

Bob was preceded in death by his son, Robert P. Moore, Jr. 

He is survived by his son, Michael R. Moore, and daughter-in-law, Laurie of Homer; his daughter, Suzanne R. Datti, and son-in-law, Joe, of Roseboro, N. C.; his seven grandchildren, Eric, Amanda, Robert III, Julia, Bridget, Christina and Domenic; several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews spread throughout the United States.
