Lifelong Alaskan and Clam Gulch resident, Peter John Thomas Janke, 15, died Saturday, July 20, 2013, due to an ATV accident near Clam Gulch. 

A celebration of Peter’s life was held at noon Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Peter’s grandmother’s house at Mile 118.4 Sterling Highway.

Peter was born June 3, 1998, to Donald Monzulla and Deanna Dawn Janke of North Pole. Peter spent his life growing up in Fairbanks, North Pole and Clam Gulch. He was a high school student entering his ninth grade year. Like most young Alaskans, Peter enjoyed being outside. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wrestling, being with family and friends, but most of all he loved being on his 4-wheeler.

Peter Janke was a young man full of life and vigor. His family states that, “He liked motorcycles and 4-wheelers a lot,” “He was always ready to go do something,” “He loved spending time with family and friends,” “He loved a challenge,” “He never gave up,” “He liked all outdoor activities,” “The family will never forget his sly little smile; he knew how to up lift a friend or family member when they were down,” “He touched a lot of people and has many stories to be shared from his short life he spent with us. He will be very missed and forever in our hearts.”

Peter is preceded in death by his mother, Deanna Janke, and his grandfather, Vincent Monzulla.

Peter is survived by his father, Donald Monzulla of North Pole; grandmother, Linda Monzulla, of Clam Gulch; grandparents, Albert and Tami Van Vliet of Central; grandmother, Deanna Kaiser of Dewey, Ariz.; brother, Jacob Janke of North Pole; sisters, Ciara Janke of North Pole and Kari Monzulla of Washington state; aunts and uncles, Betty Ann Van Vliet Schabel of North Pole, David and Pat Van Vliet of North Pole, Charles and Nagisa Van Vliet of Livermore, Calif.,
Albert and Christine Van Vliet of Anchorage, Vince Monzulla, Kenny and Hope Monzulla of Clam Gulch, and Terry Monzulla; great-aunt, Sandra Brienand; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
