Ordell was born Oct. 29, 1947, in Greenbush, Minn. He spent his first few years on the family farm in Minnesota where he learned to play hockey on the lakes of Minnesota. He came to Alaska with his family in 1957 before statehood. In the great land he saw his first mountain and gazed upon the vastness of the ocean. He played hockey for many years for Anchorage youth teams, East High and Alaska Methodist University. He graduated from East High School in 1965 and was a member of the Alaska National Guard. Ordell had many epic adventures through Europe and South America as a young man before returning to Alaska. He moved to Homer in the 1970s with good friends and chose a home site in Bear Cove, at the head of Kachemak Bay. He began his life on the sea as a Puker Boat Captain taking charters out of Homer. He met Joyce Parker and they had three beautiful children. Ordell fished for crab and halibut and worked as a jack of all trades, doing plumbing, construction and working on engines. In all of these endeavors, he loved being outdoors and living in Alaska. His friends and family will miss his humor, laughter, love of telling jokes and stories, dedication to sports, kindness and stubborn Norwegian blood. He lived his life to the fullest and he will be missed by many. He is survived by his daughter, Ryjil Christianson of Homer, and sons, Zefren and Selven of Eagle River; and by sisters and brothers Phyllis Hunt and spouse Bruce of Gervais, Ore.; Melford Christianson and spouse Judy, Vernon Christianson and spouse Connie, LeMay Hupp and spouse Doug, Lynette Watson and spouse John, and Vernice Cothron, all of Anchorage.
