Louise M. Ames Hutmacher

Former Homer resident Louise Marguerite Ames Hutmacher, 88, died peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, in Seattle. She was surrounded in her last days by her loving family.
She was born July 24, 1927, in Los Angeles. Louise graduated as a Registered Nurse from Seattle Pacific University on Oct. 15, 1948. Louise practiced as an RN in Homer, Anchorage and Juneau. She moved with her children to Seattle in 1965, where she worked at Children’s Hospital. On March 7, 1966, she began working at Virginia Mason Hospital and Clinic, retiring Aug. 30, 1996, in the Asthma and Allergy Lab. Louise found reward in her work as a nurse and was a dedicated mentor to the ranks of new and young over many years.
“Louise had a strong sense of family and was a dependable and constant presence for friends and neighbors in time of need. She will be remembered for her love, kindness and generosity,” her family said.
Louise was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Robin, Carolyn (Marvin), David (Joan), John (Barbara) and Mark; step-Children Jay Kelley Hutmacher and Jamie Kelley Sanderson; her 14 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
Louise was preceeded in death by her husband, John Phillip Hutmacher.
