Lisa Kristina Darien Hileman died in Anchorage, Alaska on Sunday, September 26, 2021. Her death was sudden, unexpected, and under uncertain circumstances. The cause of her death has not yet been determined. She was seven months pregnant.

Lisa was 25 years old. Her life was brief and, too often, hard. She was born with challenges and sustained many more, almost none of her own volition. She never shrank from any of them and embraced life with indomitable courage and unquenchable optimism. She never gave up. Lisa sped through life with the brightness and brevity of a falling meteor.

She is the mother of a three-year-old daughter, Grier Taylor. Lisa is the daughter of Florence Elizabeth Darien and Joseph Grier as well as her adoptive parents, Stephen L. and Diane H. Hileman. She is the youngest of ten siblings: Stephen M. Hileman, Adam Schwalbe, Chris Hileman, Ethan Schwalbe, Mary Ann Shivone, Ben Hastings, Sophie Fitzpatrick, Edward Darien and Chantilly Bayes. She was engaged to Alec Smith. She is the first of her family to die. We are joined in grief at her loss.

There will be a funeral mass at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Kenai, Alaska on October 26, 2021, at 1 p.m. with a brief reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that friends make a donation in Lisa’s name to their charity of choice.
