Julia Lynn McDonald, age 74, passed away on June 18, 2023 in Anchorage, Alaska. Julia was born April 21, 1949 in Rocky Ford, Colorado to Homer and Julia Mackey. Julia married Craig McDonald on May 16th 1970 and was blessed with 50 years of marriage before Craig’s passing. She is survived by her daughter Rochelle Everitt and her spouse Ben Everitt, and son Will McDonald and his spouse Bill Waltz, as well as her sisters Jackie Brandt and Sande Martin, and her five granddaughters Alissa, Ashley, Savannah, Zoe and Julia.
Julia graduated Rocky Ford High School and completed two years of Colorado State University. She was the first female letter carrier in Loveland, Colorado in 1970. After her family moved to Homer Alaska in 1984 she continued her career as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service until retirement in 2003. In addition to being a hard worker Julia was also an active member of Glacierview Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School to the teens for many years. She was a wonderful cook and was known for her delicious muffins which she gave away to friends, neighbors, and others in the community. Julia was preceded in death by her parents Homer and Julia Mackey, sister Cora Mackey and her husband, Craig McDonald.
A memorial service will be held for Julia at Glacierview Baptist Church in Homer Alaska on September 30th 2023 at 4pm local time. A potluck will follow the service and the family would love to hear your favorite memories of Julia.
