John James Coffey III

Longtime Soldotna resident John James Coffey III, 77, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2017, at his home from lung cancer.
Private family services will take place out of state.
John was born May 26, 1940, in Bristol, Connecticutt. He did his undergraduate studies at the University of California Santa Cruz and his graduate studies at American University and University of Las Vegas. John served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958-62 and was honorably discharged.
He worked in Las Vegas hotels in the hospitality industry and retired from there. He moved to Alaska and lived in Homer for four years before moving to Soldotna, where he lived for the past 17 years.
John loved Alaska, fishing, nature, traveling, reading, politics and animals, especially his cats, Sammy and Sarah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and John.
John is survived by his daughters, Meghan Green Hoffman of Wayne, N.J., and Rachel Green of Hawthorne, N.J.; and grandchildren, Cael, Harper, Robert and Andrew.
Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
