John G. Wise
May 30, 1963-July 11, 2022
John G. Wise, age 59, was called home by our Heavenly Father on July 11, 2022. John passed away peacefully at Providence Medical Center in Anchorage with his beloved wife of 32 years, Lisa, and their children, TJ and Sarah, by his side.
John was born in Homer, Alaska on May 30, 1963 ,to Frank and Cora Mae Wise. John was the youngest of five children and grew up helping the family with homestead chores as well as their commercial fishing operation on the F/V Icelander, and in 1970 on the F/V Kachemak Lady.
Through the years, John learned many boating skills and how to run the skiffs. Eventually, he captained jitneys F/V Kachemak Miss and the F/V Fish Assassin.
After losing the F/V Kachemak Lady during the 1989 oil spill cleanup, in 1990 John and his brother Nathan built the F/V Silver Streak from the hull up, and whose nephew Jake still fishes it today.
John loved adventuring all around the lower 48 states and Alaska, from taking family car trips, vacations, beach combing to climbing mountain peaks around Gore Point, Port Dick and beyond. John loved spending time with his family and experiencing new things. He had a passion for hunting and fishing, ice car racing, downhill skiing, camping, and snowmachine outings with his family and friends.
John’s many hobbies included building and flying model airplanes. He was a natural craftsman, and could build or remodel anything he set his mind to.
In the early 1980s, John moved to Anchorage and worked for Coca-Cola as a delivery driver. After a few years, he moved back to Homer and worked remote construction jobs and building runways for the Arndt Brothers in and around northern Alaska.
In 1989, he rekindled an old acquaintance and friendship with Lisa, and the two became inseparable and married in the fall of 1991. They made their home in Homer, and raised a beautiful and loving family.
In 2000, John and Nathan started their own rental property, construction and snow grooming business, Wise Services, which is still in operation today.
John was a hard-working, devoted family man who was a fun-loving and caring husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him. His personality was very warm and charming, and his quick wit was sharp and hilarious! John was also very kind and generous of his time and willingness to help anyone in need, including the dog and bunny sitting chores for all of our family and foster pets.
John is survived by his wife, Lisa; son, TJ Wise, and daughter, Sarah Wise, all of Homer; and son, Cory Wolf, of Anchorage; brothers, Rick (E) Wise and Nathan (Virginia) Wise of Homer; sisters, Kathy Wise, of Homer, and Nilane (John) Lasko of Anchorage; mother, Cora Mae Wise, of Homer; aunts and uncles, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, nephews and great cousins.
John was predeceased by his father, Frank M. Wise, in 2015; son, Brett M. Wise, in 2019; and mother-in-law, Margie Meachum, on July 1, 2022.
John was an absolute blessing to all who graced his path, especially to his family whom he loved deeply with his whole heart. Our love for John is profound and without measure. We will miss him all of our days and will love and cherish him and our memories until we are together again in the Heavenly House of God our Father.
