John C. Callahan

John Charles Callahan, aged 66, died March 8, 2018, after a short illness. There will be a celebration of life this summer at a date to be announced.
John was born in Panama on Sept. 21, 1951. He graduated from Westford Academy in Westford, Massachusetts. He moved to Homer, Alaska, in 1979. John was married to Betty Callahan on March 8, 1984, and they were married for 34 years. John was retired from the Laborers Union and most recently worked in traffic control during road construction. He enjoyed playing golf, cards with friends, his dogs and cat.
John is survived by his wife, Betts Callahan; his son, Aren Callahan; his father, George Callahan Sr.; his brothers, George Callahan, Timothy Callahan, Mark Callahan and Peter Callahan; his grandchildren, Alaina, Maritza and Evelyn; many nieces and a nephew, along with other family and family friends.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Helen O’Malley Callahan.
“John will always be remembered by his friends and family for his gentle soul, easygoing nature, his sense of humor, bright smile, jokes and easy laughter. He brought happiness to friends and strangers alike,” his family said.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Homer Community Food Pantry or the Homer Animal Shelter (Alaska Mindful Paws).
