Longtime Alaskan Joe J. Covault, 66, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at home.

Joe was born Sept. 24, 1951 in Gunnison, Colorado. He was a high school graduate and moved to Alaska in the early 1980s. He worked as a commercial fisherman in Prince William Sound in the early 1980s. He later worked for Spenard Builders Supply from the late 1980s until 2012. He also lived in Anchorage during most of the 1990s.
Joe was a three-time high school wresting state champion. He also loved hunting, fishing, snowmachining, four wheeling and Kachemak Bay.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Covault, and his mother, Dorothy Covault.
He is survived by his daughter, Brandy Hagan of Soldotna; son and daughter-in-law, Tad and Sarah Covault of Kenai; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Jeanie Covault of Montrose, Colorado; brother Larry Covault of Florida; granddaughters, Demaris Henson of Kenai, Tyrena Covault of Ft. Morgan, Colorado, Ceth Hagan of Soldotna, Karter Covault of Kenai; and grandson, Jackson Henson of Kenai.
Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
