Gordon Leon Wood

Ninilchik resident, Mr. Gordon Leon Wood, 69, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2021, at his home in Ninilchik with his wife by his side.
A memorial service will be planned at a later date next spring.
Gordon was born Feb. 29, 1952, in Coeur D’Alene Idaho to Mason Henry Wood (Rosebud Sioux) and Sylvia “Bunny” Wood (Nee Jenivie Clark). He graduated from Snyder Colorado High School and furthered his education be attending and graduating from The Colorado School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. He moved to Alaska in 1977, living in Sitka, Wasilla and Homer before making his final residence in Ninilchik. Gordon worked for South Peninsula Hospital in Homer in the ER department, worked at the Homer Boat Yard, sold cars at Worthington Ford in Anchorage, worked for Tru-Value in Sitka, was the owner of Raven Express in Wasilla, and UpJohns Pharmaceuticals in Arizona as a Traveling Nurse. He volunteered wherever he could in his community. Gordon loved fishing, hunting, was a licensed airplane pilot, skilled mechanic, carpenter, loved county music, and playing his harmonica.
The family wrote, “Gordon Wood was the center of my world, he was smart, funny, kind and always there to help. He was the most compassionate man I ever knew. He could make people laugh.”
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patti Marsh.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Pinckley of Ninilchik.
