Edwina “Teddie” O’Malley, 67, died in her sleep on Nov. 4, 2013, at South Peninsula Hospital Long Term Care. A celebration of life service is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at the New Life Tabernacle Church, 55577 East End Road. Pastor John Springer will be officiating.

She was born March 21, 1946, in Toledo, Ore., to Edward “Ted” Kilian and Jessie “Jake” Kilian. Teddie and her sister Elva grew up in Toledo along with her cousin, Karen Kilian, who was like a sister to her. In 1964 Teddie graduated from Toledo High School.

She was fortunate to be raised in a relatively small community where people knew each other. Her family had a small farm, and she learned a lot about canning and processing meat and being able to do a lot of things most people take for granted. Her father Ted worked in the sawmill for years and was a great provider. They loved being outside and gardening as a family. In 1964 the Kilian family moved to Waldport, Ore.

On Sept. 6, 1967, Teddie married Michael Dennis O’Malley. The couple lived in Waldport. Together they had two sons, Craig “Joe” O’Malley and Michael Patrick O’Malley, and a daughter, Wendy Marie O’Malley, who died during birth.

Teddie worked in the community of Waldport doing various jobs. One of the jobs she enjoyed the most was being the school nurse at Waldport Elementary School. She also was a certified emergency medical technician.

In May 1985, Teddie and her family moved to Homer. She was a stay-at-home mom until 1997 when she went to work for McDonald’s of Homer. She worked the morning shift and enjoyed working with and seeing all her regular customers and friends. Her hobbies included making jewelry, looming with yarn, baking, reading and various types of arts and crafts activities.

“Teddie never knew a stranger and had many friends over the period of her lifetime. She had a heart of gold, an infectious sense of humor and a smile that could light up the darkest days. She had a unique way of reading people and an intuitive sense of understanding. Even when she was faced with enormous challenges, she would keep on smiling, praying and would stay happy. This was probably her most endearing trait. Teddie had a wonderful sense of humor, and brought joy, laughter and jokes to all she met,” her family said.

Teddie was preceded in death by her father, Edward “Ted” Kilian; her mother, Jessie “Jake” Kilian; her sister, Elva Johnson, and her daughter, Wendy Marie O’Malley.

She is survived by her two sons, Craig “Joe” O’Malley, and Michael Patrick O’Malley; daughters-in-law, Polly Anderson-O’Malley and Ajka O’Malley; her husband, Mike O’Malley; her grandchildren, Matthew O’Malley, Maggie O’Malley and Matthew John O’Malley; and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and relatives in Washington, Kansas and Arizona.

“Teddie loved her grandchildren and family with all her heart and was extremely proud of them. She touched many people’s lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew this loving lady,” her family said.
