Dorothy “Dotty” Webster, 77, of Homer died Nov. 20, 2013, at South Peninsula Hospital with her niece, Susannah Webster, at her side.

Dotty was born Aug. 19, 1936, in Conway, N.H. and grew up in Medfield, Mass., and East Conway, N.H., with her two sisters, Jean and Patricia, and her brother,  David.  She graduated from Kennett High School in Conway, N.H., and got her registered nurse degree from Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Dartmouth, N.H.

She worked for years as a pediatric nurse both on the Hospital Ship Hope in Ecuador and the Kennedy Children’s Hospital in Boston. She also worked in hospitals in London, England, and San Jose, Calif., and as a geriatric nurse in Fryeburg, Maine. She moved to Homer in 1992 and was nursing director for the Long Term Care Unit at South Peninsula Hospital and the director of The Friendship Center at Homer Senior Center. In the mid-1990s, she became the owner of The Bath Shop, where she became a friend and confidant to many.

She was an active member of the Pier One Theatre crew. Dotty worked tickets and concessions for years, also appearing in her brother’s show, “On the Road” and in “Lend Me a Tenor.” For a while, Dotty sang as an alto with the Seaside Singers. Throughout her life she sewed Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, made quilts and did other crafts and sewing projects. She was a passionate and life-long member of the Church of the New Jerusalem (Swedenborgian Church).

She is survived by a sister, Jean Briggs, of Bowdoinham, Maine, a brother, David Webster, of Truth or Consequences, N.M.; her niece, Susannah Webster, of Homer, along with two generations of nieces and nephews, stretching from Maine to Alaska.

“Dotty loved babies, children and animals — in that order!” her family said.

A graveside service will be held this summer in Fryeburg, Maine. Friends and loved ones so inclined could make a contribution to Pier One Theater in Dotty’s memory.
