Donald Ledger, 81, passed away at The Ark in Homer on May 20, 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. There will be a celebration of Don’s life at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the Anchor Point Church of Christ. A dessert potluck will follow.
He was born in North Hollywood, Calif., to Charles Coleman and Pearl Irene Ledger on March 2, 1932. He graduated from North Hollywood High School in 1951. During his senior year he met his true love, Phyllis Livingston. They were married on July 20, 1952. Don joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas, where their son, Steven was born. In 1956, Don and Phyllis moved to Anchor Point, where their daughters, Laurie, Susan and Donna were born. Don and Phyllis raised their family on the homestead on the North Fork Road.
In the early homesteading days, Don worked as a bus driver, sawyer, mechanic, electrician, plumber, builder and excavator. Don worked at Modern Builders in Anchor Point which became Superior Builders and later Spenard Building Supply. Don was known for his hospitality, gentle spirit and quiet sense of humor. He was always ready to lend a hand, no matter the need. He liked fixing and making things in his shop. He also enjoyed moose hunting, desserts and watching old Western movies. More than these, he loved his family and friends. Because of his love for the Lord, he had a true servant’s heart.
Don was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis Ledger, and sister, Barbara Bryant.
He is survived by his children, Steven and Catherine Ledger of North Pole, Laurie and Lee Martin of Homer, Susan Ledger of Anchor Point, and Donna and Keith Chesser of Star, Idaho; grandchildren, John Ledger, Rachel and Ace Keim, Glenn and Eddie Martin, Paulina and Jacob Baker, Kinna Ledger and Roman and Trenton Chesser; great-grandchildren, Ian, Austin and Avery Keim, Alinna, Jeremiah, Larissa and Lucas Baker, and Tyrell Martin. He is also survived by many other family members.
Condolences may be mailed to the family in care of Susan Ledger, P.O. 1076, Anchor Point, AK 99556.
