Longtime Homer resident Donald Dean Huffnagle, 64, passed away Dec. 24, 2023 at South Peninsula Hospital after battling cancer.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Regent Life Church in Homer. Lanny Simpson will officiate.
Donald was born Aug. 12, 1959 in Montrose, Colo. After High School, he went on to Delta Montrose Vocational School with a major in Diesel Mechanic and a minor in electronics.
He worked for Union Carbide Corp. from 1978-84 in their Uranium refinery. Don moved to Homer in the Summer of 1985 and worked as a maintenance mechanic for Icicle Seafoods until 1999, when he went to work at the Ice House for the City of Homer.
Don was a Christian and a member of Regent Life Church. He enjoyed old westerns, electronics, fishing and playing cribbage.
His family wrote, “Don was a generous, hardworking man with a good sense of humor. He was thoughtful and very empathetic, always willing to help anyone. He loved God, family and friends, as well as anything outdoors from riding his ATV, to hunting, fishing and taking pictures. He will be greatly missed.”
Don was preceded in death by his father, Grover F. Huffnagle, and nephews, Jeff Ring and Marc Roderick.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Kinderknecht and Elizabeth Gutierrez; grandson, Urijah Kinderknecht; granddaughters, Aurora Kinderknecht and Emily Guizar, all of Cornelius, Ore.; his mother, Jeanette Huffnagle of Homer; twin brother, Ronald Huffnagle of Olathe, Colo.; sisters, Inette (Danny) Duteil of Grand Junction, Colo., Annette Huffnagle of Homer, and Cathy (Art) Myers of Massar, Mich; and numerous nieces and nephews from Alaska to Colorado.
