Homer resident Danielle (Danièle Vuilleumier) Nagle, 52, died on Oct. 12, 2013, in Homer after a long battle with cancer.

Private services were held on Monday, Oct. 15, 2013, at Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.

Danielle was born July 9, 1961, and raised in Beaumont Bienne, Bern, Switzerland. She lived in a variety of places in Europe and the United States, but eventually settled in Homer to raise a family.

Danielle threw herself into life in Alaska. She grew vegetables, raised chickens, and butchered moose and any other fish and game. She had the true Alaska frontier spirit. She was skilled at producing marquetry and wood veneer pictures and cards. She also loved music and played piano, and successfully homeschooled her wildly energetic offspring until her illness prevented her. Danielle could chop wood, haul water, keep five boys in line, and get to the airport at 2 a.m. to send off her product for sale. She was never afraid to take on a challenge.

Closest to her heart were her boys. She loved them fiercely and worked her hardest to give them a good start in life and raise them to be responsible and caring young men. She was very proud of them.

Towards the end of her life she said she felt no anger or resentments, only gratitude for all who had helped her and been part of her life.

Danielle was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Vuilleumier. 

She is survived by her sons, Simon, Yuri, James, Mark and Remi Nagle; their father, Peter Nagle; her mother, Ann Marie Vuilleumier; her brother, Jean-Claude Vuilleumier; her sister, Dominique Zeller; and many, many friends.
