Arthur “Art” Fred Hawk

Eckert, Colorado and former Homer resident, Arthur “Art” Fred Hawk died Monday, Nov. 6, 2017. at his home in Eckert, Colorado. Art was 90 years old.

Arthur Fred Hawk was born July 19, 1927, to Rolland P. and Elsie (Patterson) Hawk in LaJolla, Calif. Art spent his childhood and attended schools in Bingham, N.Y. He left home at 16. Art went on to serve his country at the age of 18 in World War II during the occupation of Japan. After being honorably discharged from the military he went on to graduate from the University of Idaho with a bachelors’ degree in animal husbandry.
Upon his retirement, Art moved to Eckert 30 years ago, coming from Alturas, California and Homer, Alaska, where he worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service. He lived in Homer from 1962-74 and 1984-86.
He was a member of Grand Mesa V.F.W. Post #9221, and enjoyed model railroading, gardening, fishing, and hunting. Art was also a natural born artist and spent many enjoyable hours sculpting and drawing.
Art is survived by his son, Kurtis Hawk of Eckert, Colo.; two daughters, Susan Abdelshife of El Segundo, Calif., and Kathy Hawk of Moscow, Idaho; a sister, Mable Graves; a sister in-law, Jan Hawk; 23 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother, Rolland J. Hawk, and niece, Cindy Hawk.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to the Grand Mesa V.F.W. Post #9221 in Cedaredge, Colo., or to the American Legion Post 16, P.O. Box 858, Homer, AK 99603.
