Anton T. “Tony” Clawson Jr.

Anton T. “Tony” Clawson Jr., age 81, died in South Jordan, Utah on Jan. 19, 2018 after a battle with cancer.
Tony was born in Salt Lake City on Nov. 11, 1936 to Anton T. Clawson and Beth Rieben Clawson. He attended West High School and the University of Utah, graduating with a degree in mathematics. He spent his career in the commercial printing industry, first as owner of Impressions, Inc. and then as Director of Printing Services at the University of Utah from 1980 until 1999.
Tony is survived by his siblings; Gordon R. Clawson (Sharon) of Anchorage, Alaska and Lynne Quarry (Jim) of Salt Lake City; by his children, Scott A. Clawson (Cathy) of Holladay, Jeffrey D. Clawson of Sandy and Jana Ward (Curtis) of Salt Lake City; and by nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one niece and three nephews.
Tony was a man of many talents and interests. He designed and built homes in Salt Lake and Homer, Alaska where he moved after retirement. He was always creating useful and innovative things in his wood shop. He took up watercolor painting and he enjoyed his association with the Kachemak Bay Watercolor Society.
Tony enjoyed many adventures with friends, including canoeing, river rafting, hiking, back-packing, biking, cross country skiing and fishing. His adventures included flying his Cessna 180 to Alaska, running four major rivers in the Northwest Territories, travels to the Arctic and Antarctica, biking across Iowa and boating and fishing in Alaska. Tony made good friends wherever he went and will be missed by many. Emeritus member of the Western Geezers Association.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Fort Douglas Post Chapel, 120 S. Fort Douglas Blvd., Salt Lake City, Utah. Please park in the dedicated lot west of the Officer’s Club. Following the service there will be a luncheon at the Fort Douglas Officer’s club. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.
