Andre Daniel Drake
Aug. 19, 1958 – Nov. 23, 2021
Andre Daniel Drake, 63, of Anchor Point, passed away peacefully Nov. 23, 2021 at 5:03 p.m., with all three of his boys by his side.
Andre was born Aug. 19, 1958 at 8:16 a.m. in Bemidji, Minnesota, to Arnold Preston Drake and Denise Andree Drake and was one of 10 children they raised. His family moved to Alaska in 1963, and he has made Anchor Point his home since then.
Andre was an experienced equipment operator and truck driver for most of his life. He worked on many projects in the Anchor Point, Homer and Ninikchik communities, as well as many others around the state. At the drop of a hat, Andre would stop what he was doing and help anyone. There were countless times he would go dig a grave on a cold frozen Sunday for someone he didn’t even know.
As a member of the 8 mile band, Andre shared his love of music and entertaining with others playing at local events, weddings and benefits to help raise money for someone in need. He would often donate money or items, even if he didn’t have much, just because he had a big heart.
Andre was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He enjoyed sharing his passion for these activities with his sons, grandkids and friends. Andre’s boisterous voice and laugh, kind heart and witty personality will be tremendously missed.
Andre was preceded in death by his father Arnold, his mother Denise, his brother Mitch, his sister Odette and sister-in-law Dawn Drake.
He is survived by his wife Diana and sons Gary, Michael (Caley) and David (Katie) of Anchor Point, Alaska; brothers Raymond (Christy) of Anchor Point, Alaska, Daniel (Helen) of Dot Lake, Alaska, and Roger of Kasilof, Alaska; sisters Lilliane Loosli, Evelyn Kuretich, Diana Weis and Josette Smith and six grandkids, Nikole, Ethan, Peyton, Carter, Katelynn and Lily.
A memorial service will be held at Chapman School in Anchor Point, Alaska Saturday, Jan. 8 at 3 p.m.
