The 21st annual Homer Winter King Salmon Tournament, sponsored by the Homer Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center, is set for March 22, with lines in the water at 9 a.m. and lines out at 4 p.m. Fish need to be weighed at tournament headquarters by 6 p.m. The one-day event offers several new attractions, including: a category for anglers fishing from kayaks; a live video feed of the weigh-in; an accelerated awards ceremony; a YouTube video contest; a “champion’s vest” ceremony; a double “King Me” raffle; a Split-the-Pot raffle; and a $250 prize for the largest white king sponsored by Café Cups.
The 2013 tournament was won by Leszek Kuligowski of Anchorage. For reeling in a 35.10-pound king salmon, Kuligowski won $15,393.
