With three south peninsula principals retiring or relocating at the end of the 2012-2013 school year, the search is on for replacements. 

Following a second round of interviews, an offer has been made by the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District and a verbal agreement given by Homer Middle School principal candidate Kari Dendurent of the Matanuska-Susitna Valley area.

“If all goes well, it goes to the school board for approval at the May 6 meeting,” said Pegge Erkeneff, KPBSD communications specialist.

Ron Larson, the school’s current principal, has announced plans to return to teaching.

Three finalists for the Homer High School principal opening for 2013-2014 were interviewed Monday:

• Doug Waclawski, who is the HHS assistant principal;

• Ryan Alsup of Juneau; and

• Rebecca Dahl of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

“Feedback from the community is due back (to the district) by (today) at 5 p.m.,” said Erkeneff.

Dr. Allan Gee announced earlier this year his plans to relocate to the Lower 48.

Interviews with three finalists were held at Susan B. English School in Seldovia on Tuesday. That school shares its principal with the Port Graham School. Interviewed were:

• David Stoltenburg of Juneau;

• Michael Thomas of Nightmute; and

• Jeff Szarzi of Homer.

Comments from attendees are due Friday. The district anticipates an offer being made early next week.

Current Susan B. English and Port Graham Principal Sheryl Hingley will become the principal of schools in Sterling and Cooper Landing for the 2013-2014 school year.
