The 2024 Rotary health fair returns at a new location

The 41st annual Rotary Health Fair will take place on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m-1 p.m. This year the fair will be held in a new location, the Christian Community Church on Bartlett Street in Homer.

“It’s Your Life … Take a Day to be Well” is the theme of the fair and the event is sponsored by Homer Kachemak Bay Rotary Club in cooperation with South Peninsula Hospital.

The free one-day event provides the community a chance to learn about local health services and up-to-date information on relevant health topics. Over 40 exhibitors will be offering various health screenings, demonstrations and services. Offerings include free flu shots, blood pressure checks, vision tests, diabetes risk assessment, chair massage and more.

Another new attraction this year, is the ability for exhibitors to sell health-related products at their booths. Exhibitors will address subjects ranging from sleep medicine, pet safety, senior services and tobacco education, to medication-assisted treatment for addiction, biofield tuning and bio-modulation therapy. Nolan the Colon, a giant inflatable walk-through colon, will be there for awareness and education on early detection of colorectal cancer.

South Peninsula Hospital will have several booths available representing different departments of the hospital. Other medical booths will include the Homer Medical Center, Peninsula Radiation Oncology Center, Alaska Breast and Cervical Screening Assistance Program, State of Alaska Public Health and SVT Health & Wellness.

Additional booths representing other Kenai Peninsula facilities will include KBBI, Homer Animal Friends, Homer Senior Citizens, Kachemak Bay Recovery Connection, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Homer Flotilla and many others.

In advance of the fair, greatly discounted blood draws are being offered at South Peninsula Hospital through Nov. 1. Appointments are required and can be made at rotaryhealthfair.org. Individuals who had advance blood draws as part of the fair can pick up blood test results at the one-day fair, and have a free review of their results with a medical provider. Food and specialty coffee vendors will be part of the fair.

Children under 10 years old can exchange their Halloween candy for prizes at the Great Candy Exchange. There will also be door prizes and chair massages.
